New York City in Black & White
When I travel, I carry a sling pack with a small amount of film camera gear for my side project involving only black & white film. The project is a variation of obscure landscapes. I enjoy this project because I get to experiment with double exposures and lens prisms. It also has a nostalgia factor since the cameras I use are vintage: a Canon AE1 I’ve had since highschool and a Rolleiflex 1956 twin lens I picked up from a vintage camera store north of Kansas City. This side project is my opportunity to break away from the instant gratification of digital images. To me this makes the process more inclusive because you don’t see your image until they are developed. I try to not make the images just another travel photography collection. My favorite images are the ones that have less to do with the subject matter and more about the abstract compositions and lighting techniques.
